One Year

One year ago today was a BIG day for our family.

On June 16, 2015, Connor had some major surgery.  Connor got his feeding tube, a Niessen fundoplication, ear tubes, 4 teeth pulled, and a bronchoscopy to check his adenoids.  While sedated, he also got an echo on his heart.  Whew!

I remember how stressed Matt and I were leading up to the surgery, although we didn't talk about it much...what's there to say?  We were both feeling the same things.

So where are we a year later?

These surgeries were a lifesaver.  I only regret we didn't agree to it sooner...it took our PICU stay for respiratory distress to finally convince us to proceed with the surgery (and someone kept getting sick and delaying it, ha!).

This past winter and spring were a complete 180 from last year.  Yes, he got sick (he's pretty congested now actually), but nothing that landed us in the hospital, ER, or After Hours.  Since he's had his ear tubes, we've had no ear infections and he's put on at least 10 pounds since his feeding tube.  He gained a lot of weight really fast and it was almost too much too fast.  He's currently getting 130 mL of Compleat Pediatric plus 30 mL of water every 3 hours 6 times a day.

Here are just a few of my favorite pictures from then to now!

On a final note, I shared this memory on Facebook the other day and every time I look at it I can't help but laugh.  Sweet Connor was not a happy baby (here at 3 months):

Just for comparison:  here's Connor in the same chair with the same bear:

Talk about a big boy!  Very thankful for the hard working teams at MUSC that made his surgery possible a year ago!
